Massachusetts Queen Anne Side Chair

Boston. Circa 1740-1760. 

Mahogany.  Graceful splat.  Wonderful turned stretchers. Bold cabriole legs. Rear legs have great chamfering on all sides. Trapezoidal shaped seat with original blocking. Seat frame replaced. Great old finish.

Height: 40 1/2"; Seat Height: 17 1/2"; Seat Width: 20 3/4"; Depth: 16 1/4"

Set of 4 Chippendale side chairs. Mahogany with pine secondary. Pegged construction with "H" stretcher base.

Height: 36"; Seat Depth: 18"; Seat Height: 17 1/2"; Seat Width (front): 21 ½"; Seat Width (rear) 17".

Pair Massachusetts Windsor Side Chairs

Boston, Massachusetts. Circa 1810.

Bird-cage windsor chairs with bamboo-turnings. Enhanced green paint with gold trim. Front feet ended out. Branded S. Gragg Boston under both seats. Samuel Gragg (1772-1855) was born in Peterborough, NH and moved to Boston in 1801.

He is known for his bamboo style chairs and for a patent, in 1808, for a bentwood elastic chair. See Chipstone Foundation exhibit as well as The Magazine Antiques May 2003.
